China reacted to Washington’s newly signed spending package by expressing anger and frustration over foreign aid funding.

During a news conference Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Beijing “firmly opposes” Congress’ decision to provide funding and support to Tibet and Taiwan.

The official also noted this section contains objectionable language toward China. He alleged the U.S. is using Taiwan to intervene in China’s internal affairs and harm Beijing’s interests.

“We urge the U.S. to stop interfering in China’s domestic affairs through relevant issues,” Lijian stated. “And not to implement the negative content and clauses in certain bills that target China and harm China’s interests, so as not to further damage the overall situation of China-U.S. cooperation and bilateral relations.”

The spokesman added, these types of acts are hindering cooperation efforts between the U.S. and China.
