Moderna’s newly approved vaccine is already on the road and could be administered as soon as Monday.

On Sunday, vials of the vaccine began shipping out from distribution centers in Kentucky and Tennessee.

5.9 million doses are expected to be delivered to more than 3,700 locations across the United States. This came just days after the FDA granted Emergency Use Authorization of the vaccine.

Dr. Arnold Monto, the head of the FDA Vaccine Advisory Committee, expressed optimism the authorization will help end the coronavirus pandemic.

“Congratulations to us all for achieving this Emergency Use Authorization for a second vaccine,” Dr. Monto stated. “Which along with other events, will eventually… break the back of the pandemic.”

On Sunday, initial recipients will be decided by an expert advisory panel.
