Chicago recently launched new travel restrictions after a spike in coronavirus cases.
In the newly introduced color-coated “Tier Map” on Tuesday, 44 states and territories have been ranked based on how prevalent the virus is in that region.
Depending on the state’s threat level, the ‘Windy City’ will now require a 14 day quarantine or negative COVID-19 test when traveling from certain areas. This came after Chicago saw its highest single-day increase since the start of the pandemic.
As coronavirus cases surge nationwide, Chicago will now assign each state a color to indicate what level of travel restrictions apply.

“Now is not the time to be traveling, now is not the time to be gathering,” said the Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady. “It is not the time to have people in your homes who do not already live there and that it is the time to put COVID first.”
This decision came ahead of the holiday season when traveling is expected to increase. The new order will go into effect this Friday.
