Family members and authorities continue to search for 36-year-old Marilane Carter, who went missing after she left her Kansas home on August 1st.

Carter was headed to see family in Alabama, but disappeared in West Memphis. According to her mother, she was in close communication with her daughter before losing contact near the Interstate 55 bridge.

“We don’t have any record of her leaving this area, so this is the last known spot that we know she was,” she explained.

Before losing contact, Carter was seen by surveillance video checking into a Quality Inn hotel in West Plains Missouri, which is a few hours from her home.

Family members have said she was traveling to Birmingham, where she hoped to get treatment for anxiety from a mental health care facility. Relatives are hoping to search around the Mississippi River in order to find any clues or rule out any foul play regarding her disappearance.

“Many of you have reached out and said how you can help. The biggest need we need help with right now, is we need volunteers to help us search the river right around the I-55 bridge there in Memphis. We need people who have a boat, very good sonars and experience navigating the Mississippi River.” – Adam Carter, husband of missing person

A Facebook page called “Finding Marilane” has been created for people to sign up to help search.

Coast Guard officials confirmed they are aware of the missing mom, but were unable to conduct an official search without having evidence of her entering the river.

“We honestly don’t know what happens after this,” added Carter’s mother. “They need their mommy, he needs his wife, we need our daughter.”
