The governor of Tennessee has dismissed Dr. Deborah Birx’s advice toward implementing coronavirus safety measures.
On Monday, Republican Gov. Bill Lee said he will not mandate the recommendation of closing bars and limiting indoor seating within restaurants. He also said county officials will not be given the authority to mandate either.
This comes after Dr. Birx recently identified Nashville as one of the 11 cities that need to take aggressive action to combat the spread of the virus.
“I’ve said from the very beginning of this pandemic that there’s nothing off the table,” stated Gov. Lee. “I’ve also said that we are not going to close the economy back down and we are not going to, but I appreciate their recommendations and we take them seriously.”

While the two disagreed on business closures, Dr. Birx did support the governor’s mask measure, which allows county mayors to impose their own mandates.
