White House Trade adviser Peter Navarro recently weighed-in on ongoing efforts to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. While speaking outside the White House Monday, he stated five companies are in a “horse race” to create a vaccine.

Navarro said the Trump administration is working at warp speed to ensure the nation has the manufacturing capability to produce one billion doses of a vaccine by 2021. He highlighted the administration’s push to work on multiple fronts.

“Obviously in a pandemic like this where lives are at stake, hundreds of thousands of American lives are at stake, the economy’s at stake,” stated the trade adviser. “We wanted to go faster so the paradigm shift for President Trump is to do things simultaneously rather than in sequence.”

Navarro said the company FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies is critical in regard to mass producing a vaccine.
