Florida is now the state with the highest coronavirus death rate. Data released Tuesday shows the state reported an additional 134 COVID-19 deaths and 9,400 new cases.
Since the pandemic began, Florida has had more 5,000 coronavirus deaths and nearly 370,000 cases. As of Monday, at least 53 hospitals in the state have no beds available in their Intensive Care Units.
Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke on the ICU bed capacity at a roundtable on Tuesday.
“ICUs, they typically want to run them 88 to 90-percent full because you have no need to staff something if you’re not going to use it,” he stated. “…If there’s an expanded need, they can expand those types of services.”

DeSantis remained optimistic by saying antibody testing is increasing and a downward trend will come soon.
