Dr. Anthony Fauci has suggested the reopening of the economy should be done in a”‘measured way” to avoid another COVID-19 outbreak.
During an interview Saturday, the coronavirus task force member said many people took an “all or nothing” approach to distancing guidelines by either completely locking down or ignoring guidelines entirely.
Dr. Fauci admitted the economy needs to get back up and running, but in a controlled manner to avoid the consequences of community spread. He warned community spread is more difficult to contain than spread in single location like a prison or nursing home.
“When you have community spread, it’s insidious because there are so many people in the community who are infected by asymptomatic,” he explained. “It makes it extremely problematic to do efficient contact tracing because most of the people who are infected don’t even know they’re infected.”

When it comes to a vaccine, Dr. Fauci said many manufacturers are already creating doses even without the vaccine being proven effective. This means once a vaccine proves successful, there could already be millions of doses available to the public.
