Citizens of Argentina demonstrated against the government’s coronavirus response this week. Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Wednesday, where they demanded an extensive food program amid the pandemic.
Protesters claimed several soup kitchens were already lacking food after mandatory lockdowns increased the demand.
“The country has tripled the number of people who go to soup kitchens and the government is not even fulfilling the normal amount of food required by the organizations,” explained one protester. “There are regions of the country that have not received stocks in two months.”
According to reports, the government has admitted that pandemic measures would be tough on populations living in poverty as the country continues to face an economic crisis.

According to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, there are over 4.3 million confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide. As of Wednesday, more than 294,000 people have died, while over 1.5 million have recovered.
Lockdowns are slowly being lifted around the world as countries work to safely reopen.
Experts have said several potential vaccines are going through human trials. However, they expect it could take upwards of a year for one to be proven viable and become widely available.
