During a U.S. Marshals Task Force investigation in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday afternoon, three police officers were reportedly shot and killed, including one U.S. Marshal, according to law enforcement authorities.

A total of eight law enforcement personnel were shot during the incident, which occured at a home in Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings at a Monday evening news conference.
Additionally, at least one other suspect was found dead at the scene.
On Monday afternoon, multiple officers attempted to serve a warrant in the Shannon Park neighborhood, but were abruptly struck by gunshots. It has been confirmed that three have died as a result.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), authorities evacuated the area outside of the residence where law enforcement officers had been shot. Authorities are now currently investigating the incident.
According to Jennings, the incident occurred in the 5000 block of Galway Drive as the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was executing a warrant for the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A suspect holding a “high-powered rifle” opened fire at the officers, who returned shots back, killing the suspect in the front yard. According to Jennings, the individual had been served with a warrant by U.S. Marshals.
“As officers approached, they received additional gunfire from inside the residence,” the police chief stated.
According to Jennings, three members of the U.S. Marshals task unit have died. In addition, four police officers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg were shot as well, and one of them is reportedly “fighting for his life” in the hospital and is still in severe condition.
However, the officers’ names were withheld by the chief, since police are still in the process of informing the relatives of the slain.
According to Jennings, authorities are now questioning two “people of interest.”
He went on, “We are very early in the investigation. CMPD will be in charge of this investigation; there are still many unanswered questions and many things we need to learn.”
The “threat is 1714433145 isolated” to that region, according to the police, who previously advised locals to shelter-in-place.
“The residence on Galway Drive is now clear, and the area is safe. Residents no longer need to shelter in place,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in an X post on Monday afternoon.
A news conference is taking place at 5:40 p.m. ET.
“Numerous law enforcement officers struck by gunfire in active situation,” the CMPD said earlier on X.
According to WSOC-TV, an armored truck was seen speeding through yards and tipping over recycle bins. Later, officers removed an individual who had blood on their clothes and directed them into an ambulance.
The helicopter pilot claimed that the scene was “too disturbing” to display the front lawn of the house after it had been cleared. A number of armored cars were parked on the driveways and lawns in the older suburban community.
Governor Roy Cooper (D-N.C.) described the incident as “tragic” and explained that North Carolina is offering assistance.
“I am in contact with law enforcement concerning the tragic shooting in the Charlotte area, and we have offered state resources to help. — RC,” Cooper wrote on X.
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles (D-N.C.) explained in an announcement that she is “deeply saddened by the shooting that occurred that involved Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers and U.S. Marshals today.”
“I ask that all Charlotteans keep them, the other injured officers, and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” Lyles stated.
