A Texas police officer has died from his injuries after a shootout at a local Albertsons grocery store. On Friday, the Mesquite Police Department said while responding to a disturbance call, the officer was struck twice by a male suspect.
The officer reportedly fired back at the suspect before striking him once. After being rushed to a local hospital, the officer was declared dead while doctors were treating him.
Local reports said several Mesquite police officers gathered at the hospital to mourn the long-serving officer.

“This was a senseless act of violence that ripped a loving husband and father from his family,” said Chief David Gill of the Mesquite Police Department. “He was a good man, a good friend, a good officer. Please keep his family and our family in your prayers.”
Additionally, several officers coordinated a motorcade to transport the fallen officer’s remains to the medical examiner’s office. Mesquite Police are asking for everyone’s support as the community mourns such a tragic loss.
