But the sporting mega-event also has a darker side: a spike in human trafficking, in particular a rise in sexual exploitation. This year, Miami will host the Super Bowl on February 2, but the party city in southern Florida -- already the state with the third highest rate of human trafficking in the country, after California and Texas -- worries that the combination of the huge sport event in proximity to its world-famous beaches and clubs will create a perfect storm of sex trafficking. A man in Florida is facing several felony charges for allegedly trafficking a teenage girl and forcing her into prostitution. On Friday, 23-year-old Moise Junior Jasmin was arrested and later charged with several felonies including human trafficking, aggravated child abuse and sexual battery.

Jasmin is alleged to have taken the girl from New York to Florida when she was just 13-years-old and forced her into prostitution. According to officials, officers found the girl who is now 15-years-old and had been reported missing, while investigating a separate incident.

Authorities also said they found explicit videos of Jasmin and the young girl online. The victim told officials she was ordered to tell people her age was 19.

“Rescuing these victims and removing traffickers from our community are and will always be the main goals of my human trafficking task force, said Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “These dedicated police officers and investigators deserve a community-wide thanks.”
