House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) suggested President Trump should testify in front of the January 6 Commission if the investigation led up to that point. Speaking to CNN on Sunday, the Democrat responded to questions as to what would constitute a full investigation of that day.
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made the recent announcement of the members of the committee, seven Democrats and one Republican, who would lead the investigation of the January 6 event. Clyburn believes this pursuit of truth could lead the commission to compel President Trump to testify.
It is clear that #January6th was not simply an attack on a building, but on our very democracy: an attack on the peaceful transfer of power. It is imperative that we find the truth of that day and ensure that such an assault on our Capitol and Democracy cannot again happen.

“Oh, if it comes to that, they should go where ever the facts lead,” he stated. “I would not want to see a former president testifying in such a situation as this, but if that’s what it takes in order to get to the bottom of this because this is more than any one person.”
Chair Bennie Thompson of the January 6 committee has yet to rule out Trump to testify. If the 45th president were made to testify, he’d be the first president to testify in front of a congressional committee since Gerald Ford in 1983.
The only Republican currently on the partisan commission is anti-Trump Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).
