Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has doubled down on defunding the police. During a recent town hall, the New York Democrat said concerns about the nation’s crime surge are simply “hysteria.”

Her remarks came just days after the National Fraternal Order of Police reported shootings in New York City rose 64 percent this year compared with this time in 2020. However, Ocasio-Cortez claimed Americans are misinterpreting these reports and said now is the time to slash law enforcement budgets.

Meanwhile, according to recent reports, a record number of police have resigned since last summer amid her push to defund police protection for American taxpayers. A critic on Twitter pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks come in spite of having armed security on Capitol Hill.
