Rep. Greene denies report she harassed Rep. Ocasio-Cortez amid debate push

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is fighting back against false accusations from the mainstream media as she continues to challenge Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to a debate over the Green New Deal. While speaking to reporters in front of Capitol Hill on Thursday, Greene denied she was being uncivil towards Ocasio-Cortez after being accused of screaming at the Democrat outside the House chamber on Wednesday.

“I was talking to AOC, saying you need to debate me about the Green New Deal,” stated the Republican. “That’s her legislation, she should be able to defend it for the American people.”

Following the encounter, Ocasio-Cortez allegedly felt threatened by Greene who later expressed that she had security concerns regarding the Georgia lawmaker. Greene went on to criticize the Democrat, stating she uses her social media platform to spread anti-American rhetoric and defend terrorists.

“I don’t know why she needs security, she shouldn’t have a problem debating about her policy,” said the Georgia representative. “Why would a member of Congress need security to debate with another member? That doesn’t make sense.”

Greene believes a debate on the economic impact of the policy would be informative for the public, allowing for the American people to hear the two sides along with the pros and cons.

“See, that’s bipartisanship, talking to one another, debating policy for the American people…that’s what needs to happen,” she stated. “So no, she doesn’t need to file ethics violations or whatever she’s doing…that’s reacting like a child.”

Despite being ignored by Ocasio-Cortez, Greene said the American people deserve to see bipartisanship on Capitol Hill in order to have a healthy debate on public policy.
