San Diego has opened a free coronavirus testing center on the U.S.-Mexico border. The site was set up at the San Ysidro port of entry for essential workers and U.S. citizens, who often cross the border by foot from Tijuana.
The port’s PedWest crossing is the busiest international pedestrian crossing in the world.
Around 200 tests will be offered daily on a first come first serve basis.
“We get about 20,000 people that are crossing the border walking,” explained one local health official. “So, this is an opportunity for those coming for essential reasons and our essential workers, they can quickly stop by and get their test on their way to work.”
