More than 50 hospitals in Florida have reached maximum capacity in ICU beds as the state’s coronavirus cases continue to increase. On Friday, the Sunshine State hit another single-day record with 11,433 cases and over 400 hospitalizations.
According to Governor Ron DeSantis, there are plenty of beds still available. He has has dismissed sensational reporting of the capacities and emphasized that’s “how hospitals are normally run.”
Yet, health care staffers have voiced concerns.
“The mood is uncertainty,” said one surgical technician. “We don’t really know when it’s going to end, how it’s going to end or how it’s going to affect us.”
DeSantis recently sent 100 contract nurses to Tampa Bay, which is one of the hardest hit areas in the state. He has urged Floridians to seek medical attention for all emergencies.
I have directed the state to send 100 nurses to support @JacksonHealth as they continue to care for COVID-positive patients. I am committed to supporting our hard-working health care workers and physicians across the state and thank them for their ongoing efforts. pic.twitter.com/hQMf0CNda0
