Hundreds of people gathered at Salt Lake City’s City Hall in a demonstration supporting police officers. The gathering happened Saturday in a counter-protest to a group calling to defund the police directly across the street.
The event was organized by the Utah Business Revival group whose founder is a former city police officer. He said he wanted to support the officers who responded to riots in the city at the end of May.
The organizer said people don’t have to be divided on the issue of police and racism, but they also don’t have to burn cities or defund the police.

“I think if we were really to step away and have more private conversations, and let our guards down and just be open and to listen to other people, that we would actually probably agree more,” stated Carole Turner, a Back the Blue supporter.
The two demonstrations remained mostly separate and peaceful with officers on hand to maintain the peace.
