China accuses U.S. of ‘blame games’, reiterates opposition to coronavirus origin investigation

According to the White House, U.S.-China relations have greatly deteriorated due to the coronavirus outbreak. On Wednesday, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany slammed Beijing for reportedly failing to inform the world of COVID-19 and share information about it in a timely fashion.

“Right now, it’s a relationship of disappointment and frustration because the president has said how frustrated he is that some of the decisions of China put American lives at risk,” she stated.

McEnany also noted that China refused to cooperate with U.S. investigators and failed to warn of transmission risks. She said President Trump will soon make a decision on future relations with China.

“The president has worked with China and stood up to China, and got the ‘Phase One’ China (trade) deal — a huge win, $250 billion,” she explained. “…I’ll leave it to the president as to how we move forward and I certainly won’t get ahead of him on that.”

President Trump has confirmed U.S. Intelligence will continue its probe into China’s role in the alleged cover-up of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pointed the finger at the U.S. for playing what she called “blame games.”

While speaking Wednesday, the Hua Chunying claimed China worked in a timely manner to make the facts quite clear about the coronavirus. She also said the country has also cooperated internationally with epidemic prevention and control.

Chunying even went on to address reports, some of which are coming from top levels of U.S. government, regarding the country’s effort to conceal knowledge about the virus for personal gain.

“The claims that China is concealing the epidemic situation, delaying notification to the world and making benefits from the outbreak are sheer nonsense,” she stated. “China has always maintained an open, transparent and responsible attitude.”

The spokeswoman went on to reiterate China’s opposition to an investigation into the origins of the virus by calling it a “hasty international inquiry under the presumption of guilt.”
