The Senate is moving forward with plans to pass its own continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown.

On Thursday, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced that he will file cloture on a bipartisan continuing resolution so that the Senate can take action in the event Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) does not come up with a passable proposal.
The Democrat’s move will allow for procedural votes to begin as early as Monday.
Senators on both sides of the aisle are pushing for a clean stopgap which would not include the Save Act, like the bill that failed in the House did.
Schumer also contended that filing cloture will give the upper chamber “maximum flexibility” to prevent a shutdown before the October 1st deadline.
