Azar was found guilty on Wednesday on felony riot charges, second-degree disorderly conduct, and unlawful use of mace.
“Violence and rioting will not be tolerated in Clackamas County,” District Attorney John Wentworth stated. “Law enforcement officers and prosecutors worked diligently to bring this case to trial because families deserve to feel safe in our parks.”
The riot was incited due to a clash between the pro-America, anti-government group Proud Boys and the “anti-fascist” leftist group Antifa. Antifa members had been screaming and burning American flags, which prompted a number of Proud Boys members to get into altercations with them, chanting “F*** Antifa!”
Police officially declared the fight a riot after the two groups began throwing smoke bombs and shooting off fireworks.
Azar was charged for her role in provoking the riot after being identified in a video in which she was seen spraying mace at Proud Boy members’ faces.
“She just wasn’t even just your average Antifa member. She was somebody who definitely was an orchestrator, or I would call a ringleader,” stated Clackamas County Commissioner Ben West. “They operate with creating fear, and at a certain point, you just have to stand up and be like, ‘No.’”
“Alissa E Azar is Rose City Antifa’s most well-known member. She portrays herself as a “journalist,” yet she has a lengthy history of participating in the group’s far-left extremism,” the Post Millennial reported.
Following Azar’s guilty verdict, another well-known member of Antifa, John Hacker, got into a verbal altercation outside of the courthouse, which led to him knocking down and assaulting a man.
“He was bleeding pretty profusely. He was dazed. I got him off the group, sat him up, tried to provide some direct pressure,” West stated. “Then antifa came out and were yelling threatening things to me, and making threats to me and my person while I was giving my report to law enforcement.”
Hacker has since been arrested, charged with assault, and denied bail.
Azar’s trial in downtown Oregon was chock-full of Antifa members supporting her. They also reportedly harassed nearby journalists who were covering the trial.
“The courthouse is full of people that are obviously Antifa members. They have a specific look about them, and they will take any opportunity to be very confrontational,” West continued. “They come out of the courthouse flipping everybody off; they’re just acting chaotic and unhinged.”
