‘Tragically, we can confirm that two lives have sadly been cut short,’ he said.
‘No doubt this incident will have a lasting impact on the whole community,’ he added.”
Two children have been killed and seven others were injured during a stabbing that occurred at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga workshop in England.
Authorities stated that on Monday morning, a 17-year-old boy wearing a “black hood” reportedly attacked the children at The Hart Space, where the yoga and dance event took place.
He was later taken into custody. The authorities did not disclose the assailant’s name.
“It is like a scene from a horror movie,” a local merchant, Colin Parry, told the BBC. “They are coming here now and screaming. It’s like something from America, not like sunny Southport.”
The children, who were between the ages of 6 to 11, were rushed to three local children’s hospitals after the attack. They are still being treated by medical professionals.
Surfacing reports also stated that the suspect arrived to the yoga space after being dropped off by a taxi.
Meanwhile, a Hart Space employee described the chaos to reporters.
“When I got there, there was a guy who was absolutely distraught, in a mess,” he said. “He’d seen two children run out of The Hart Space and he thought they had got hit by a car because the car was just full of blood at the side of the car. But it was actually that the children who had been stabbed had fallen into the car.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer also released a statement following the fatal incident.
“Horrendous and deeply shocking news emerging from Southport,” Starmer said. “My thoughts are with all those affected. I would like to thank the police and emergency services for their swift response. I am being kept updated as the situation develops.”
