As Republicans intensify condemnation against Vice President Kamala Harris while she begins her presidential campaign, Representative Andy Ogles swiftly filed articles of impeachment against her on Tuesday.

The filing builds on previously submitted articles that highlight Harris’s immigration connection, a point of contention for the GOP over the vice president.

President Joe Biden assigned Harris the duty of addressing the “root causes of migration” in Central America early in his presidency. The task resulted from an executive order signed by him in February 2021, which claimed to inhibit illegal immigration to the U.S. from the Northern Triangle nations of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, where natives have chosen to migrate from due to their own criminal histories, poor living conditions, gang violence, drug trafficking, and unstable economies.

“The vice president is leading our nation’s efforts to address the root causes—that fundamental question of why people leave their homes,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said. “And it is my responsibility as the secretary of Homeland Security to address the security and management of our border.”

The White House claimed in March of this year that Harris had succeeded in getting businesses to pledge more than $5 billion towards creating more job opportunities and “lowering the rate of crime” in the foreign countries. However, officials were also somewhat vague by refraining from giving statistics or specific examples of how her role ultimately benefited the U.S. or how it inhibited foreigners from crossing the southern border illegally.

Meanwhile, in Ogles’s (R-Tenn.) updated filing, he included a second article arguing that Harris’s apparent concealment of President Biden’s poor cognition and mental well-being constituted a “breach of public trust.”

“Kamala Devi Harris has knowingly misled the people of the United States and the Congress of the United States, principally to obfuscate the physical and cognitive well-being of the President of the United States, Joe Biden,” the updated filing says.

Even though Biden’s campaign for re-election concluded officially on Monday, he claims that he will still serve out his whole term and is in good condition. However, Biden also previously asserted that he would be the 2024 Democrat nominee just over a week ago before later backtracking, so many Democrats and especially Republicans alike do not have the same trust they once had regarding Biden’s claims.

Harris has “demonstrated extraordinary incompetence in the execution of her duties and responsibilities, a stark refusal to uphold the existing immigration laws, and a palpable indifference to people of the United States suffering as a result of the ongoing southern border crisis in the United States,” the initial articles stated, which were filed on June 12th, 2023.

Along with the extreme recent border-crossing figures, the document also included numerous newsworthy murders and sexual assaults perpetrated by illegal aliens who crossed into the United States, including the death of nursing student Laken Riley, who was murdered by a Venezuelan national. This tragic murder has brought attention to the failure of Biden and Harris’s administration’s border policies, or rather, lack thereof.

“In all of this, Kamala Devi Harris willfully and systematically refused to uphold the immigration laws, failed to control the border to the detriment of national security, compromised public safety, and violated the rule of law, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States,” the articles continue.

Similar allegations regarding immigration policy led to the House impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in February. However, the Democrat-led Senate dismissed it.
