Ford Motor Company is recalling over 550,000 pickup trucks in the U.S. due to transmission issues.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the transmission in certain 2014 F-150 pickup trucks have unexpectedly downshifted to first gear no matter how fast the trucks are driving.
Ford announced that this downshifting can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles and can lead to car accidents.
They continued, saying that the recall does not affect vehicles in a certain VIN number range, so FORD is now asking customers to call its toll-free number or contact a local dealership to see if their truck is among those affected.
The malfunction can also cause “an abrupt transmission downshift to first gear,” Ford said, which “without warning could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.”
The U.S. auto regulators began the investigation in March after over 80 reported complaints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had received 86 complaints total, with one driver claiming that he had crashed into another car and a concrete barrier after his truck suddenly downshifted.
If you have an F-150 that you believe could be impacted by the recall, you may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 24S37. You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
