Former President Donald Trump said in a podcast uploaded on Thursday that foreign students graduating from U.S. colleges should have the chance to receive green cards in order to stay in the country and work.

However, Trump seemed to be solely referring to foreigners utilizing legal student visas at U.S. universities, not illegal immigrants and “asylum seekers.”

On The All-In Podcast, hosted by Silicon Valley tech investor Jason Calacanis, the host told Trump that the U.S. needs to be able to retain more “highly-skilled workers,” which has been said to be a major issue in the tech industry in recent years.

“Can you please promise us you will give us more ability to import the best and brightest around the world to America?” Calacanis said.

“I do promise,” Trump said. “But I happen to agree, otherwise I wouldn’t promise… [That if] you graduate from a college, I think you should get, automatically as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country and that includes junior colleges too.”

A green card allows individuals the right to live and work permanently in the United States and is a step closer towards citizenship.

The Trump campaign said in a statement that only after “the most aggressive vetting process in U.S. history” would “the most skilled graduates who can make significant contributions to America” be able to stay.

Meanwhile, Trump has called for the largest mass deportation effort that America has ever seen if he is reelected and put back in office. He has strived to deport the hundreds of thousands and millions of illegals who have invaded the U.S. in recent years under Biden, sucking up resources that many argue should be going to veterans, the elderly, and the homeless.

Additionally, during the interview, Trump ruled out committing U.S. troops to Ukraine.

“I would guarantee it,” he said, when asked if he would pledge not to put boots on the ground in Ukraine. “I wouldn’t do it, no.”

He also stated that he would not create a pathway for NATO to allow Ukraine to become a member.
