On Saturday, Ocala Police Chief Mike Blanken stated that there was a shooting at 3:40 p.m. at the Paddock Mall leaving one dead and at least one wounded.

The name of the victim has not yet been publicly released as their family and loved ones are being notified.

After receiving reports of what they initially believed to be an active shooter scenario, police later concluded that the incident was “a targeted act of violence,” according to Balken, who also stated that the man who was killed was thought to be the intended target of the gunfire.

The suspect, who is described as a Black man with black hair, black pants, and a black mask that covers part of his face, ran away and is still at large.

According to Balken, the gun used in the incident has since been found.

Balken revealed that the mall has been evacuated and will probably be under lockdown for a minimum of another twelve hours.

He continued saying that several local agencies were assisting in the investigation.”
