According to local officials, the blast in the deadly attack in northwest Pakistan caused a portion of the building to collapse on Tuesday in Dera Ismail Khan, a city in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that borders Afghanistan.
Police officer Kamal Khan said that, in addition, militants began firing at the building, which sparked an hours-long shootout with security personnel before three militants were killed.
In an attempt to apprehend the remaining militants who had escaped, police began a search operation in the area.
Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) declared in a statement that it was responsible for the attack and that the violence was directed towards the police station’s officers.
According to Khan, there have been additional security forces from areas throughout Pakistan that were stationed at the Daraban police station as of late. These forces had been working with local police to carry out intelligence-based operations against militants in the area.
Authorities also stated that the death toll is expected to rise as many are still in critical condition.
