McDonald’s is launching the drink-focused restaurant in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
The café will be titled “CosMc,” which is named after a retro alien mascot character that McDonald’s once utilized in a marketing campaign during the 1980s.
Images of the establishment captured by locals that were posted online showed that CosMc will mostly focus on using the McDonald’s drive-thru option, and menu items sold at the location will consist of signature “galactic boosts,” iced teas, lemonades, slushes, frappes, milkshakes, hot and iced coffee, and various baked goods.
One video captured by a local news team showed that CosMc’s exterior appears to have yellow and navy blue (or purple depending on who you ask) branding and at least four drive-thru lanes at each establishment.
Given that McDonald’s headquarters are located in Chicago, it makes sense that CosMc opened in a nearby Illinois area.
Additionally, the well-known fast food chain announced its intention to open CosMc back in July, which is when the company’s sales increased by more than 10% after the “Grimace Birthday Shake” went viral.
“CosMc’s is a small-format concept with all the DNA of McDonald’s, but its own unique personality,” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski announced.
Fast food enthusiasts online have suspected that the new CosMc restaurant may be a rival for Starbucks, which serves coffee and snacks similar to those found in a McCafe.
McDonald’s will bring CosMc’s establishments to a number of locations in ‘a limited geography’ in early 2024, representatives say.
