The off-campus house where four University of Idaho students were murdered, is set to be demolished. The university has said that this decision will be a “healing step.”

University of Idaho President Scott Green made the announcement on Friday morning.

The house will be demolished,” he stated. “This is a healing step and removes the physical structure where the crime that shook our community was committed. Demolition also removes efforts to further sensationalize the crime scene. We are evaluating options where students may be involved in the future development of the property.”

The owner of the property located on King Road, recently offered the house to the university. The institute accepted the offer and has since made plans to get rid of the structure.

The bloody crime scene helped authorities paint a picture of how the horrific event took place. Additionally, the scene helped them locate a suspect.

Bryan Kohberger is the prime suspect in the murder case. He is accused of stabbing and killing Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kernodle’s boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, 20.  Kohberger was arrested two months after the November killings.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary court hearing in June. He faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. If convicted, he faces life in prison or the death penalty.
