House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) slammed Democrats for their anti-American energy policies. While recently speaking on the House floor, the California Republican reminisced about gas prices being an average of $2.53 a gallon just a year ago. He said there is a solution to bringing such glory days back by drilling in America again.

“Republicans offered a bill last week that would approve the Keystone pipeline, fast track oil and gas production on federal lands and waters, and remove all hurdles to exporting American natural gas,” McCarthy explained. “American people wondered what happened after that…220 Democrats voted against it.”

According to the potential future speaker, Democrats don’t want Americans to have access to cheap energy as evidenced by their refusal to support GOP efforts to expand the country’s oil production capacity. Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also blasted the Biden administration while alleging the federal government is waging a “war on energy.”

In an interview Tuesday, Cruz said the administration would rather fund terrorism over American energy independence. He added, President Biden created the crisis the U.S. is facing. The senator recently introduced legislation that would restore American energy independence, but he said the White House has instead chosen to purchase oil from places like Iran and Venezuela.

Republicans have long pushed for American energy independence while urging Biden to do more to ramp up oil domestic production.
