Top Taliban officials are pleading for international help in order to help combat the surge in migrants from Afghanistan.
During a meeting on Saturday, the Taliban’s deputy foreign minister said it was the United States’ responsibility to help Afghanistan recover after decades of war. It added the impact of the frozen funds is effecting the common people and not Taliban authorities.
This comes as the government is reportedly pushing to engage with the world community after seizing power in Kabul.

“The policy of Afghanistan’s Islamic Emirate is that all the borders are open for all refugees, anyone with any name, any nationality or any religion living in any country. Either it’s a neighboring country or a European country, could openly return to their homeland,” said deputy foreign minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai.
The Taliban said several organizations and local businessmen have structured a plan to send displaced people back to their provinces, and provide families with financial support in addition to free transportation.
However, many countries, including the U.S., have halted aid and frozen funds due to international unwillingness to engage directly with the Taliban. Many remain concerned over women’s rights and political inclusion.
