Several Republican lawmakers gathered on Capitol Hill to address the mounting problem at the southern border. In a press conference on Thursday, Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.), several members of the Republican Study Committee, along with top law enforcement and Border Patrol agents, each discussed the crisis.

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) spoke first, citing the failure of executive leadership from the Biden administration and added policy decisions from the White House are making America less secure.

“They’ve greatly restricted law enforcement, pulled frontline agents away from their primary security mission. They’ve transformed them into facilitators of illegal crossings,” said Higgins. “This administration under President Biden has basically aligned the American government with human traffickers and drug traffickers.”

He went on to discuss the transfer of illegal immigrants all across the country without proper vetting or COVID-19 screening. Higgins added he hopes they will self-report or self-deport somewhere down the line. However, Higgins warned this creates a serious national security threat.

Not only did the lawmakers want to highlight the urgency of the crisis, but also recognize the valiant efforts of frontline border agents. Higgins said to do this, the administration must finish the wall, strictly enforce Title 42 authority, reinstate the Remain in Mexico Policy and offer the necessary resources to law enforcement that they need to perform their security orders.

Meanwhile, Cammack called out the Democrats and the administration for allowing this to get so out of control. The group asked their Democrat colleagues to work in a bipartisan manner to help protect America.
