Los Angeles County has been to set to dismiss thousands of cannabis convictions. In a press release on Monday, District Attorney George Gascón announced his office would seal the record on nearly 60,000 marijuana convictions.
Gascón went on to say this would help thousands of individuals find employment, housing and other services denied to them because of their convictions. However, some residents have claimed his sweeping decision was not enough.
Local resident Ingrid Archie went on to explain, “when these convictions are taken off of our record, it minimizes so many more barriers and it allows people the opportunity to actually reintegrate into society and do what’s needed to not only take care of themselves, but also their family.”

This brings the total cannabis cases dismissed in Los Angeles County since last year to almost 125,000.
