At least one person is dead and a dozen are injured following a shooting at a grocery store in Collierville, Tennessee. Authorities confirmed the number of victims on Thursday with Police Chief Dale Lane calling it the worst tragedy the town has ever seen.

“As bad as this scene is, and it’s horrific. I’ve been involved in this for 34 years and I’ve never seen anything like it. But our teams came together and worked together,” said Lane.

Lane confirmed in a later press conference at least once of the victims is currently undergoing surgery and another is in the ICU. There were no reports of any officers injured.

The shooting was first reported at 2 p.m. local time, when police were dispatched to the Kroger grocery store. Reports said the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Additionally, local reports said the suspect’s car was still in the parking lot following the shooting. Some have speculated the suspect may have been a recently-fired employee at the store, though authorities said they are uncertain of the shooter’s identity at this time.

Memphis Police said they are actively working to secure the scene, along with the Collierville Police Department and the ATF.
