GOP members in the House are holding Joe Biden’s feet to the fire regarding his botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. On Monday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) led a roundtable discussion with a group of Republican lawmakers, many of whom served in Afghanistan.
McCarthy urged the Biden administration leave troops in the country until every American is evacuated. He lamented Biden did not take proper steps to leave Afghanistan, which he claimed put the lives of U.S. troops and many innocent people in harms way.
“As many of you know, it’s been a tragic two weeks,” he stated. “A culmination of watching 13 of our service men and women give their life. Eighteen who were seriously wounded, dozens of innocent civilians dead. Yesterday, we saw the solemn scene of their bodies being returned.”
President Biden botched the withdrawal from Afghanistan, putting American lives in harm’s way and leaving many Americans stranded in a hostile nation.

Florida Rep. Michael Waltz (R) took aim at Biden’s foreign policy team while suggesting they seemingly have a cozy relationship with so-called “good terrorists.” He added, many officials served with former President Barack Obama who was in office during the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi as well as the surge in ISIS attacks at home and abroad.
Waltz warned, Biden’s appeasement approach to Afghanistan will lead to more and more concessions.
“What we have just handed the Taliban and these terrorist groups is a mountain of leverage on a silver platter,” he stated. “Every time they want money, every time they want recognition, every time they want economic assistance or access to billions in foreign reserves they can walk down the street and take another hostage.”
Additionally, former U.S. Navy SEAL and Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) said to be weary of the Biden administration’s remarks alluring that the 20-year war is over. Instead, he claimed Biden did not end or lose America’s longest war, but gave up a strategic position in the Middle East.
Crenshaw warned the disastrous pullout will cripple America’s ability to deter terrorist organizations from getting stronger and launch attacks at America as well as its allies. Additionally, he discouraged the public from downplaying the sacrifices servicemen and their families made over the past two decades.
In the meantime, the lawmakers stressed Biden cannot fail in getting Americans out safe and keeping a close eye on terrorist groups in Afghanistan. They warned if Biden does fail, more American lives will be lost.
