According to National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, the Taliban has agreed to continue to allow transport of Americans out of Kabul. In an interview on Sunday, Sullivan said all public and private statements by the Taliban have shown nothing has changed in regards to allowing safe passage out of the country.
Sullivan added this guarantee of safe passage would apply after the Tuesday withdrawal deadline for Americans still there. In a separate media appearance, Sullivan said Tuesday’s deadline was not a cliff if the agreements with the Taliban held true.
“August 31st is not a cliff,” he stated. “After August 31st, we believe that we have substantial leverage to hold the Taliban to its commitments to allow safe passage for American citizens, legal permanent residents and the Afghan allies who have travel documents to come to the United States.”

According to White House estimates, around 300 Americans remain in Afghanistan and are trying to leave through Kabul.
