The State Department has been faced with addressing the tough questions regarding Afghanistan and still has yet to provide adequate answers. State Department spokesperson Ned Price has come under fire for an apparent lack of preparation and transparency when giving updates on Afghanistan.
At Thursday’s press briefing, several reporters asked Price the same question, which addressed the uncertainty of how many Americans still remain in Afghanistan. Price repeatedly refused to answer the question, saying he couldn’t provide a number.

Though a clear answer remained absent all throughout, Price repeated several times the State Department is doing all it can to relocate the unknown number of people out of Afghanistan as quickly as possible. Also, when referring to those desperately trying to get into the Kabul airport, the spokesman acknowledged the “congestion” surrounding the airport. However, he asserted things are moving efficiently.
Price drew visible expressions of aggravation from members of the media as the reports of so-called “congestion” included video footage of violent Taliban attacks at checkpoints and even Afghan mothers handing over babies to U.S. troops.
