A Pentagon police officer has died after a shooting incident outside the Defense Department headquarters. On Tuesday, officials reported the so-called “shooting event” attack happened near a platform by the Pentagon Metro Station earlier that day.
According to reports, the officer was stabbed and later died, while the suspect was shot dead in the incident. The Pentagon was briefly placed on lockdown and the public was ordered to stay away from the area.
Authorities said the area remained an active crime scene amid the ongoing investigation. The circumstances of the incident have been unclear.

This comes amid an uptick in violent crime in the area, including a fatal shooting about a mile from the White House and a shooting outside a Washington Nationals game last month.
