GOP Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she hopes lawmakers will finish crafting the infrastructure bill by the end of the week. During an interview on Sunday, Collins said she thinks lawmakers will be able to lay down the bill soon and perhaps begin consideration of some amendments in the Senate.
The Maine senator also noted she believes 10 Republicans in the Chamber will support the bill, which is what Democrats need in order to avoid a potential filibuster of the legislation. Although, Collins estimated the bill will receive more than 10 Republican votes and cited past support for infrastructure improvement under the previous administration.

“It’s worth pointing out that President Trump proposed an infrastructure package of, I think, $1.5 trillion. So, he too at one point recognized the need for investment in infrastructure,” said Collins.
The bill, which the White House has backed, is estimated to direct more than $1 trillion towards infrastructure spending over the next eight years.
