Republicans in North Carolina have decided to move forward with a bill that would place limitations on teaching critical race theory in schools. The state’s Senate Leader Phil Berger has voiced his support for the measure.
He said at the core of CRT is indoctrination and that his greatest fear is teaching children that race is determinative of whether or not someone is going to be successful or that it justifies present day discrimination.
Berger added he’s not alone in his quest for answers.
According to the Associated Press, CRT was created in the 70’s and 80’s and claimed racism is systemic in American institutions, meaning white people are the dominant race in society. Although, Berger said he’s always been skeptical of the Democrats’ push for CRT in schools.

He noted that because he shares the same concerns as many other Americans, the goal of the GOP’s proposal is to alleviate those concerns.
“So, if they’re not indoctrinating students then there should be no concern about the bill as drafted because all the bill prohibits is that indoctrination. So, if it’s not happening then they shouldn’t be up in arms about the existence of the bill,” said Sen. Berger.
In the meantime, GOP senators have moved forward with the bill by pinpointing examples of indoctrination being used in the current school system.
