South Dakota has doubled down on its efforts to help secure the southern border. Gov. Kristi Noem (R) announced on Wednesday that she’s approved the deployment of 125 additional National Guard members to help combat the Biden border crisis.
The troops are set to be deployed later this year and will provide non-law enforcement support to U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents. This comes a week after the governor announced the deployment of up to 50 National Guard troops to Texas in order to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border.
Grateful for those who serve. 🇺🇸This morning 50 of our @SD_Guard soldiers left to help secure our southern border and stop the flow of illegal drugs and human trafficking that impacts our state and the country. They were ready to go and on the road by 7 am. pic.twitter.com/Ay1z38Ua5h

Ian Fury, a spokesman for Noem, said in a statement that “securing the border is not a ‘political gesture’” and that the deployment was necessary because “unfortunately the Biden administration has failed to step up and fix this crisis.”
Gov. Noem praised South Dakota’s National Guardsmen for their service and said they are prepared to respond to the national security crisis.
