Authorities capture man accused of shooting Fla. police officer

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 03: Daytona Beach Shores Police set up a road block to only let residents in as hurricane Dorian looms in the Atlantic Ocean, on September 3, 2019 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Dorian, once expected to make landfall along the Florida coast as a category 4 storm, is currently predicted to turn north and stay off the Florida coast, lessening the impact on the area. Dorian strengthened to a "catastrophic" Category 5 storm, packing winds of 175 mph and bearing down on the northern Bahamas before an expected turn to the north along the eastern seaboard of the United States, according to weather forecasts. On Wednesday night, a Daytona Beach police officer was shot in the head while investigating a suspicious vehicle. The suspect has since been taken into custody.

The multi-agency manhunt for 29-year-old Othal Wallace ended at the wooded property outside Atlanta early on Saturday, after police were tipped off about the suspect’s potential whereabouts.

Authorities reported finding Wallace hiding at a Black nationalist paramilitary group’s property. Wallace was discovered hiding in a treehouse and was subdued without issue.

Police Chief Jakari Young released the statement at a press conference Saturday morning stating, “at approximately 2:30 this morning, a search warrant was executed on a property which was located just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. And I am pleased to announce that this search warrant has resulted in the arrest of Othal Wallace.”

The property is reportedly owned by the Black nationalist group “Not “Effin” Around Coaltion.” Wallace is set to be transferred to Daytona Beach at a later point.

In the meantime, 26-year-old officer Jason Raynor remains in critical condition, but is showing positive signs of improvement.
