House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) asserted that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is covering for China when it comes to the origins of the coronavirus pandemic.

During an interview on Thursday, Louisiana lawmaker stressed it’s difficult to answer basic questions about the origins of COVID-19 when the House Speaker refuses to hold a hearing. He said despite repeated requests, Pelosi will not subpoena people who communicated with Wuhan lab scientists.

While speaking at a hearing this week, the Louisiana Republican said Pelosi’s actions are suspicious, especially as China continues to try to hide evidence.

“Speaker Pelosi and the House of Representatives should not be covering up for China’s lies and potential crimes,” stated Scalise. “We should be coming together on a bipartisan basis to search for those answers and shine the light of transparency on the origins of this virus to the world.”

The House Minority Whip said while the GOP does not have Pelosi’s powers, they will hold their own meeting with witnesses and experts next week to shed light on the issue.
