Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) has announced his state will complete President Trump’s border wall with its own funding. At the border summit in Del Rio, Texas on Thursday, Abbott said barriers will be installed along the Rio Grande River in areas with the largest presence of illegal aliens.
The state wall comes as part of the $1 billion budget allocated for border security by the Texas legislature. Texas saw a 700 percent increase in illegal border crossings this year amid the Biden border crisis.
Enhanced Border Security Plan:
➡️ Disaster declaration — individuals entering TX illegally subject to arrest
➡️ Task Force
➡️ Approving over $1B in funding for border security
➡️ Building border barriers
➡️ Interstate compact powers#BorderSummitTX— Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) June 11, 2021
Abbott said the border fence will be managed by Texas authorities, which would allow state law enforcement to detain and deport illegals.
“The ability to arrest will be enhanced by building border barriers. Some of these border barriers will be built immediately,” he declared. “Whenever anybody tries to modify, attempt, or get through these any of these border barriers, that itself is a crime for which they can be arrested.”
Abbott went on to say the Biden administration has failed to protect U.S. border security and individual states must now take the matter into their own hands.
