Former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced that children should not be required to wear masks at summer camps or other outdoor venues.
On Friday, Gottlieb stressed other health risks associated with wearing masks during the summer, which included a heat stroke, and said those factors outweigh any safety benefits they provide. Gottlieb reiterated that children are far less at risk of contracting the virus than any other group. In addition, he mentioned summer camps and other outdoor activities are not considered super-spreader sites.

Under the CDC’S current guidelines, campers and staff must wear a mask at all times regardless of vaccination status. Yet, experts and parents are pushing back against the guidance, noting that the CDC lifted mask mandates for vaccinated adults in most settings, whether outdoors or indoors.
