America’s largest military contractor Lockheed Martin held a “White Men’s Caucus” designed to deconstruct white male privilege and culture.
The organization’s “White Men Caucus” aimed to identify areas of white male culture which participants don’t realize marginalize other people outside of their racial group. The executives at Lockheed Martin, who are primarily older white men, participated in numerous exercises.
One of the first exercises was a word association game where the executives heard the phrase “white men” and then were asked to say the first word that came to their mind.
Some of the participants responded with serious answers, such as “KKK,” “Aryan Nation,” “privileged” and “racist.” While other responses included “NASCAR,” “can’t jump” and “golf” which seemed to poke fun at stereotypes that are common to white men.
A later part of the seminar was for the executives to repeat internalized statements of white male privilege, which are otherwise thoughts white men have without realizing they are thinking them. The executives were then asked to repeat internalized statements of heterosexual male privilege.
The overall message of the “White Men’s Caucus” was to have the straight white men recognize their tendencies of valuing success and self-discipline above all else. The “White Men’s Caucus” is meant to teach participants to not force those aspects of their culture onto others who don’t value individualism, hard work and golf as much as they do.
Many people are now claiming that Lockheed Martin’s decision to make executives take part in this critical race theory based training is part of a greater movement to implement CRT in the U.S. military and defense industry alike. On that same note, people are also wondering how the mainstream media would react if this seminar was instead based on anyone other than straight white men.
