The secretary of the Air Force has selected Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama as the location for U.S. Space Command headquarters.

On Wednesday, Gov. Kay Ivey (R) said she couldn’t be more pleased with the decision, adding the state has long provided exceptional support for its military and their families.

Following a two year competition, Redstone Arsenal was named one of six finalists back in November.

“We’ve gone through two major base realignments and closures where we brought other commands here to Huntsville, and the community here did a fantastic job in all cases,” stated Harold Brewer, Intuitive Research and Technology chairman.

The move, however, is not a done deal as some site analysis results have not yet been completed and a final decision will be made in 2023.
