House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has chosen retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honore to investigate the Capitol building’s security. Pelosi made the announcement Friday, saying they must “subject the whole complex to scrutiny in light of what happened and the fact that the inauguration is coming.”
She went on to condemn the violence at the Capitol and noted they are commissioning an after action committee to review the incident.
“Members are moving forward with strong oversight from committees, of course, to have after action review,” Pelosi stated. “There is strong interest in the Congress in a 9/11 type commission and outside commission to conduct that after action review.”
The speaker went on to say demonstrators who stormed the Capitol building will be held responsible, but in the meantime, Gen. Honore will make recommendations on how elected officials can stay safe.
The general is best known for leading humanitarian efforts in the South following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.
