House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says impeaching the President would be a mistake.
On Wednesday, McCarthy made the remarks during the House debate ahead of an impeachment vote.
The California Republican said the President bears responsibility for the Capitol riots and is not free from fault. However, he also said an impeachment in such a short period of time and without an investigation would not be appropriate. He emphasized it would further divide the nation.

“A vote to impeach would further fan the flames of partisan division,” McCarthy stated. “Most Americans want neither inaction nor retribution. They want durable, bipartisan justice. That path is still viable, but it’s not the path we are on today.”
He also said President Trump should help quell unrest and make sure Joe Biden is able to successfully begin his term.
