During a press conference on Monday, Pete Ricketts (R) announced workers at meat packing plants would be at the top of the list for the next phase of vaccinations. These employees will follow frontline workers, educators and residents of long-term care facilities.
However, many are worried illegal immigrants would be included in this round of inoculations. This is a concern Rickett’s quickly dispelled.
“The question was, do you leave a gap if you’re not inoculate people who are not here illegally? And you have to be here legally to be working in those plants, so there should be no question about,” he stated. “If you’re here illegally, you’re forking the plants — that’s when you get the vaccination.”
The state’s Department of Health and Human Services expects this next round of vaccines to roll out sometime this month.
